Some facts about cucumbers

Cucumber is one of the oldest plants known to man. Grown more than 6000 years. Its homeland is considered to be India. Nutritional value is not great because it contains 95-96% water, a small amount of cellulose, pectin and protein and large amounts of vitamins A, B and C and minerals are represented by the potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and iron. At 100 grams cucumber contains only 14 calories. It is rich in trace elements like copper, manganese, cobalt, zinc and iodine. Copper is essential for the functioning of the nervous system and regulation of motor functions. Iodine ensure proper functioning of the thyroid gland and has very good anti sclerosis effect. The zinc content provides the process of insulin needed to regulate carbohydrate metabolism, which makes them indispensable product in the diet of patients with diabetes mellitus. Cucumbers have the ability to dissolve the salts of uric acid and therefore are suitable for sufferers of gout, kidney stones, arthritis and all conditions that occur with increased acidity of blood. Relatively high potassium content promotes the separation of liquids from the body. Because of water and cellulose the cucumber has laxative effects and it is used to treat chronic constipation. With regular use of cucumbers in the diet it reduces the conversion of carbohydrates into fat, which is useful in the propensity to obesity.
